Travelling to London....
Thanks to technological breakthroughs of our era, today people can choose between various means of transportation, such as trains, automobiles, buses, aeroplanes, etc. As the time passed these vehicles have become more equipped, therefore they can live up to everyone’s expectations. Moreover, the question of comfort is not that much crucial, since an other issue seems to appear, which is speed.
Due to the fact that not only businessmen but we all need to adapt to a rather hectic way of living, speed in transport is essential. Therefore, one of the best, although not the cheapest, means of transportation might be travelling by aeroplane. Since London is a large city, it is served by three major airports, Heathrow, Gatwick and Stansted, and two minor airports, Luton, and London City.
For those who find flying by plane rather expensive can still choose traveling by train, which is almost as comfortable as flying by a plane. On one hand traveling by train gives you the opportunity to see the beautiful scenery of the places which they are going through. On the other hand, it's usually easier to care for small children on a train than on a plane or car trip. In addition, London is served by many local, regional, national and even international rail services, as well.
If you prefer driving for hours, your best choice might be travelling by car. While travelling by car you are free to stop when and wherever you want. Although driving for hours may be tiring, it is economical and comfortable, especially if you are on a family holiday.
If you are looking for adventures, you should try hitchhiking. Hitchhiking is suitable for those people who do not have a family or for those who have plenty of time to get from one place to another. Moreover, in this way one can see almost every aspect of the place he/she is going to. In addition, nowadays there are many hitchhiking clubs available.
All in all, today there is a wide range of transportation available, but the most important thing is to choose the one which fulfils all your needs!
Is it worth visiting London?
My answer is definitely YES!! As London is one of world’s major cultural, financial and business centres it is really worth visiting it. Due to its rich culture and tradition London is extremely popular not only among youngsters, but it can satisfy the needs of elderly and business people, as well. I think that this is because it perfectly combines the ancient world with the new one.
The idea that we can walk on the same streets as famous English people (for example, Shakespeare, Queen Elizabeth, Virginia Woolf, etc.) that we have studied in schools, read about in the newspapers or even seen in the television is really fascinating. Walking down the streets and drinking in the culture, fine arts, and theatre of this amazing city is one of the best things I have ever experienced in my life.
While staying in London one should not miss visiting Buckingham Palace, Westminster Abbey, St. Paul’s Cathedral, Houses of Parliament with the famous clock tower Big Ben, Princess Diana’s memorial. If you are on a family holiday with your wife and children, visiting London Dungeon, The Zoo of London, Madame Tussaud’s waxworks and Tower of London with its colourful 'Beefeaters', will give them an unforgettable adventure. On the other hand, if you are interested in fine arts, the capital of England provides you with a wide range of museums, such as British Museum, Science Museum, Tate Gallery, Victoria & Albert Museum, National Gallery, Imperial War Museum, Natural History Museum, National Maritime Museum, London Transport Museum and Museum of London.
However interesting sightseeing might be, London always has one more ace in its sleeves! Therefore, if you get tired of sightseeing I would suggest you to try one of the traditional British pubs. In addition, when we talk about London we should not forget to mention the festivals which are held there. One of my personal favourites are Trooping the Colour, which is also known as the Queen's birthday parade and The Times BFI London Film Festival. Trooping the Colour is held annually in June, its tradition goes back to 1748., while The Times BFI London Film Festival is the largest public film event in the United Kingdom, screening over 300 films from 60 countries. Apart form Trooping the Colour and The Times BFI London Film Festival the are some other festivals which are worth to mention, such as Coin Street Festival, Thames Festival, Notting Hill Carnival ,etc.
As far as the tourist accommodation is concerned the city offers us all the possibilities of category and price. However, I will suggest you to try apartment rentals, as staying in an apartment is usually cheaper than staying in a hotel. As mentioned above, apartments in London are available at all prices and categories so they can satisfy the needs of every costumer. Moreover, one can easily find apartments in reasonable prices in the heart of London, as well.
All in all, I thing it is really worth visiting London because it can live up to everyone’s expectations. Additionally, one can never get bored in city with such colorful history and culture!
